Shannon Burkett is a New York City based actress, writer, producer, mother, registered nurse, and Certified Lactation Consultant who specializes in well-baby and NICU. When she is not busy adding to her list of identities, she enjoys spending time with her fabulous three kids, two neurotic cats, massive dog, and good-humored husband playing Hearts and Wordle. FYI – the dog usually wins…because he eats the cards. 

Recently, she collaborated with composer, Heather Christian, on The Female Pope, an opera that explores the fluidity of gender, the complexities of gender identification, and the depth of institutional gender bias over several centuries. She has worked with composer, Peter Salett, on their musical So You Wanna be a Porn Star: a story of sex love and rock-n-roll, for which she wrote the book and lyrics. She produced a music video that was accepted into numerous film festivals across the country and nominated for several awards, including a win for Best Music Video at the Los Angeles Movie Awards. Her passion to facilitate activism through art inspired her to create and produce a benefit cabaret two years in a row during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The sold-out performances of So You Wanna be a Porn Star: a story of silicone, struggle, and survival at the Laurie Beechman Theaterfeatured the talents of Lea Delaria, Miriam Shor, Kate Nowlin, and James Carpinello, Her other works have had readings at EST, The Lark, WET, and 45 Bleecker.  She produced a staged reading of her play, Jesus Was Democrat, in protest of the Republican National Convention. Other plays include: Once Upon a Sisters Grimm, The Ringer, Fun for the Whole Neighborhood, and House of Cards

 As an actor, she’s appeared on Broadway alongside Patrick Stewart in Arthur Miller’s The Ride Down Mt. Morgan. Off-Broadway she has been seen in Anon (Atlantic), Postmortem (The Flea), Dead City (New Georges), The Dew Point (SPF), Cavedweller (NYTW), Scab (WET) Stars (Soho Rep), The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told (Minetta Lane), Stupid Kids (WPA), The Young Girl and the Monsoon (Playwrights). Her TV and Film credits include: Motherhood with Uma Thurman (Killer Films), Intern, Jersey Guy, The History of Glamour, LoveGod (Good Machine), L&O, L&O:CI, The Jury
