Shannon Burkett is an award-winning writer/producer/activist who wrote, produced, and edited the podcast LEAD how this story ends up to us, an Official Selection at Tribeca Festival, winner of four Gold Signal Awards, An Anthem Award for Health Awareness, and recently was nominated for three Ambies, a Webby, and a Shorty Award. LEAD Talks, is her new interview series aimed at bringing communities together. Participants include: elected officials, medical professionals, cutting edge researchers, scientists, advocacy organizations, and mothers of lead-affected children. She is a Jonathan Larson Grant recipient who wrote the book/lyrics to the musical, The Female Pope, with composer Heather Christian, which was awarded The Jonathan Larson Grant, Pipeline Arts Award, developed at JMF Goodspeed, Ground Floor at Berkeley Rep, NAMT, and presented at FreeFest at The Signature Theatre. Her award-winning musical short films have been screened at over 25 film festivals including several Oscar Qualifiers (Cannes, Woodstock, Omaha, RiverRun, AmerDoc, RiverRun, Edmonton, and many others). She has collaborated with composer, Peter Salett, on their musical So You Wanna be a Porn Star: a story of sex love and rock-n-roll, and their sold-out cabaret, So You Wanna be a Porn Star: a story of silicone, struggle, and survival, which raised money to fight breast cancer. Her stop-motion musical comedy pilot, Perfect Little School, was a semifinalist at Raindance. Her plays include: Lead (Waterworks Festival Finalist; O’Neill Finalist), Once Upon a Sisters Grimm, The Ringer, Fun for the Whole Neighborhood, and House of Cards. As an actor, she appeared on Broadway opposite Patrick Stewart in Arthur Miller’s The Ride Down Mt. Morgan, Off-Broadway: Atlantic, The Flea, New Georges, NYTW, WET, Soho Rep, Minetta Lane, WPA, and Playwrights Horizons. Film/TV: Motherhood (Killer Films), Intern, Jersey Guy, The History of Glamour, LoveGod (Good Machine), Law & Order, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and The Jury. Member of Ensemble Studio Theatre, New Georges Affiliate.
